We at LKM are thankful once more to have had a good year collectively as a firm, as the individuals within it, and on behalf of our clients.
Firm: We continue to be recognized as an outstanding top-tier law firm by U.S. News and World Report for the sixth time in six years. We added an outstanding lawyer in SuperLawyers Rising Star Attorney Kayleigh Bowman, and greatly benefited from Attorney Ashley Cervin’s contributions in her first full calendar year at the Connecticut Bar, including as co-chair of Family Law for the CBA Young Lawyers Section. We are thankful that our entire team has come through the pandemic in good health. We continue to be appreciative of the good work of our long-time loyal staff, Patrick Buckley and Cecilia Bayek, and for the addition of Brooke Barbeau who joined us directly from the University of New Haven as a legal administrative assistant.
Partners: Each of the three partners once again was recognized for excellence through being listed in The Best Lawyers in America, with Attorney Bob Katz named the Best Lawyers 2023 Family Law “Lawyer of the Year” for the Hartford metro area. For 40 years Best Lawyers has been regarded, both by the legal profession and the public, as the definitive legal guide for excellence in the United States. LKM is one of a handful of firms in Connecticut in which all of the partners have been listed in Best Lawyers. The partners were all similarly recognized once more by SuperLawyers.
Courts: The Connecticut Family Court continues to operate under the ever-evolving “Pathways” program. None of the rules and practices of the Pathways program have been formally adopted by the Rules Committee and the Practice Book is unchanged from the old world of Short Calendar that, despite being the official guide, as practical reality no longer exists. While unpredictability and uncertainty continue to be recurring difficulties, overall, wait time for hearings and access to the courts have improved substantially from the darkest days of 2020 and 2021. Now more than ever, having an experienced hand to guide a litigant through the court process is a critical element to navigating divorce successfully.
We look forward to what 2023 will bring for our firm, our legal colleagues, and our clients.
